What should I do first when a circuit breaker trips in my home?

Turn off or unplug the devices on that circuit first. Then reset the breaker by moving it fully to OFF, then firmly back to ON. Check for a tripped GFCI outlet on the same circuit and press RESET. If the breaker trips again, stop using the circuit and call a licensed electrician. If you smell burning, feel heat, or hear buzzing, use our 24/7 emergency service in Seattle and nearby.
